A Heartwarming Reunion: Giada De Laurentiis, Ex-Husband Todd Thompson Celebrate Daughter's College Milestone

Famed chef Giada De Laurentiis and her ex-husband, Todd Thompson, united to celebrate their daughter Jade's significant college milestone. The family's joy was palpable in a series of heartwarming social media posts shared by De Laurentiis on August 9th. "Celebrating our girl before she sets off on this exciting new journey... We are so incredibly proud of you, @jademarie_dlt 😭❤️," De Laurentiis, 55, expressed via Instagram, alongside a collection of photos chronicling their beachside celebration. In one poignant image, De Laurentiis tenderly kissed Jade's cheek as the young adult beamed at the camera. Another captured the family of three standing together, surrounded by silver balloons spelling out "Jade." In a touching video, De Laurentiis could be seen delivering an emotional speech before enveloping Thompson and Jade in a group hug. The proud parents welcomed Jade into their lives back in 2008, but their journey as a family came to an end in 2024. Recently, De Laurentiis candidly discussed the bittersweet emotions she has experienced as her daughter embarks on her college years at NYU. "The truth is, I've had some incredibly sad days and some incredibly happy ones," De Laurentiis revealed to Us Weekly in July. "I've spent most of my summer with her because I'm trying to hold onto these moments. It feels like a 20-year chapter of being a mother is coming to an end." As Jade prepares to live across the country in New York City, De Laurentiis acknowledged the emotional distance that will come with it. "Yes, she can call me, but it's much further [than California]," she said. "It's OK, but I don't think people talk about how it affects you, especially as a mother. It's almost like your purpose is done. It's weird." De Laurentiis shared her thoughts on the grieving process that parents may experience during this transition, noting the importance of finding distractions and leaning on one another for support. "Just this 4th of July, there were moments where I was really sad," she recalled. "I looked at her and thought, 'Oh, my God. I don't know if I'll have these moments like this again.' She'll probably have a boyfriend and friends and be off." However, De Laurentiis also acknowledged the newfound freedom that comes with her daughter's independence and the excitement of exploring fresh opportunities together. "A lot of moms have said it's kind of like when you have your first child," she shared. "It's a shock to the system. ... A lot of people have said it's just another chapter. You've got to look at it as you have more freedom, too, at this point. She has more freedom, but so do you." As we bid farewell to Jade and welcome her to her new college life, let us cherish the heartwarming moments shared by this loving family. We eagerly anticipate what the future holds for Giada De Laurentiis, Todd Thompson, and their remarkable daughter, Jade.
